Could Josh Allen Win an Olympic Gold Medal?
Josh Allen might have to make some more room on his trophy shelf for a gold medal, if the NFL approves a new proposal.
In the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics, Flag football is being added as a new sport and the NFL is considering whether or not to allow players with NFL contracts to participate in the games.
Olympics Add Football, Sort Of
Flag Football was added to the Olympics as a new sport by the Olympic Committee in 2023, and the league and players' union started to work on parameters that would allow NFL players to participate in the Olympics.
As of right now, professional players are allowed to play in the Olympics for Baseball, Hockey, and Basketball, so it wouldn't be unprecedented for professional football players to play in the Olympics.
NFL Players Showing Interest, NFL Has to Decide
Several players have already expressed interest in playing in the games. Players like Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill are on record saying they would love to be part of Team USA.
During the annual NFL owners meetings, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said a decision could be made within the next 60 days.
Hurdles and Concerns
The biggest issue would be possible injuries to players. While flag football is not as physical as NFL football, there is still a chance of injury.
