What’s Happening In Western New York: Wednesday Edition
Here is a look at some of the top trending stories today in Western New York.
1 Today could end up being a record day here in Western New York. The projected high of 74 would end up tying the current record high in Buffalo. The record of 74 was set back in 1946 but there is only a slim chance of tying that record. We will have very windy conditions throughout the day and those winds could bring some cooler temps as they sweep across Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. If the record is matched or a new record is set, it would happen around 3 pm.
2—If you use baby powder, you should double-check the kind you have. The FDA has issued a massive recall of Dynacare Baby Powder products due to possible asbestos contamination. The products recalled were sold at several stores and online at Amazon.com. The recall affects baby powder sold in 14-oz and 4-oz bottles.

Early voting continues today and this week with polls open during the week from Noon to 9 pm and from 9 am until 5 pm on the weekend. If you can’t vote early this week, you will be able to vote this Tuesday on Election day. Polls will be open from 6 am until 9 pm on Election Day.

That’s right, if you are like me, in my house on Halloween there is a special “Parent Tax” on all candy collected during trick-or-treating. I used to collect 5 pieces of my favorite candy from my son Avry every year. This is a great way to show your kids just how taxes work.

The Home Energy Assistance Program or HEAP allows New York residents who meet certain financial criteria to get assistance with paying for their heating bills from New York State. If you qualify, the HEAP money is paid right to the energy company so you don’t have to do anything but apply.
6 –If you are planning on taking the kids trick-or-treating tomorrow it looks like predicted rain could move in starting around 7 pm. Most towns in Western New York allow for trick-or-treating between 6 pm and 8 pm so you should plan on trick-or-treating earlier than later.
