Another Western New York Nightspot Closed Down By Government
Owing a bar, nightclub, or restaurant is the Buffalo area is not for the faint of heart. Not only do you have to deal with the uncertainties of the current economic environment and if your business will be impacted by current US foreign policy, you have to deal with all the issues that generally come with doing business in the Empire State. While there has been a big push lately by government officials to lessen the regulatory burden, it is a hard place to be successful in business.
Just look at the state of the night scene in the Buffalo area. Over the last year or so we have seen multiple nightspots, clubs, and bars go out of business for various reasons.
Some places have been burned due to arson, some have faded away as they've become less cool to hang out in, and unfortunately, some other locals have been forced to shut their doors by officials in the local government.
Another Western New York Nightspot Closed Down By Government
In years past, Buffalo gained quite a bit of notoriety in the party scene as one of the few places in the entire nation to have a last call time of 4 a.m., coupled with several clubs that held a good reputation for many years. Those glory days have long been gone as more and more nightclubs and bars are being closed by the government.
Several big name locations have been padlocked by goverment officals and that list is now growing after a club near the Buffalo / Cheektowaga border has been issued an order to cease operating.
I am glad to report that with the team effort of the Cheektowaga Town Council, The Luna Lounge was served a cease and desist order by the Town of Cheektowaga Code Enforcement today May 5, 2025. There have been 3 shootings and over 114 police calls here. The establishment is in violation of Chapter 91 of the town’s code.

Cheektowaga Town Councilwoman Diane Benzkowski posted a copy of a letter issued to Luna Lounge, ordering them to cease and desist operating and suspending their licenses. The letter, dated May 5, 2025, says the club's owners misrepresented material facts in their application for a license and, as such, are suspending their license.
According to reporting from WIVB-TV, more than 100 calls to police have been made to this location in the last year.
The owners of Luna Lounge have said on social media that this is only temporary and that they will be back operating soon.
