The last several months have seen quite a bit of strife happening between various States in America. From some states sending migrants across the country to other states to states looking to gerrymander thier congressional maps to make it easier for one political party to get an advantage over another, we've seen some serious infighting in the United States of America.

While, in theory, we all should be striving towards forming a more perfect union, it seems that some places are going out of their way to poke fellow American citizens.

That exact thing may be happening on a larger level if Texas Governor Greg Abbott follows through with a potential threat he made against people of the Empire State.

Texas Looks To Impose Tariffs Against Relocated New Yorkers

As election day around the nation comes to a close, communities all around America are voting to elect new local judges, council members, county commissioners, and mayors. Perhaps one of the biggest local elections we've seen in a while is the race for New York City mayor that has pitted former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo against current New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani.

While the election of a new mayor in the Big Apple should only concern people in the Empire State, the governor of the Lone Star State has chimed in with his opinion and has also made a threat that has many people scratching their heads.

In a post on X, Texas Governor Greg Abbott threatens to impose a tariff on any New Yorker who moves to Texas if Mamdani wins the mayoral election.

Both the New York Post and Newsweek have reached out to the Lone Star State Governor for comment, as tariffs, by definition, are not imposed on people but on goods that are imported from another country. Plus, the US Constitution and the Supreme Court prohibit states from imposing fees, duties, and tariffs on interstate commerce.

Considering that there are a lot of people who don't really understand how tariffs work in the country, the Governor may be confused about what a tariff is.
