While it takes a lot of skill and ingenuity to be a successful criminal, no one said that anyone who has committed to a life of crime is smart. Now, that doesn't mean they are unintelligent, but doing illegal things does seem to fall under the category of not making good decisions.

If you need examples of that, then you don't need to look much farther than all of the criminal activity that is found at our international border crossings.

The men and women of US Customs and Border Protection do a pretty good job of catching criminals trying to smuggle things into the country. However, from time to time, various lawbreakers make it pretty easy for CBP officers to do their jobs.

Man Driving Stolen Car Arrested At Peace Bridge

There are countless examples of lawbreakers doing pretty silly things near the Peace Bridge. Now, while the roads that are near one of the busiest border crossings in the nation can be a bit confusing, and sometimes leads a criminal on the wrong path, every once in a while a criminal actually purposely tries to cross the international border between the United States and Canada, and that's when they sometimes are in for a surprise.

According to a release from US Customs and Border Protection, that exact thing happened on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Peace Bridge when 33-year-old Mokhtar Kazemi drove a 2023 BMW XM on the Peace Bridge on the way to Canada.

It seems that the 2023 BMW, which is valued at more than $100,000, was stolen in May 2025 from Maryland, and it appears it was being taken to Canada for some other reason.

Mr. Kazemi was taken into custody and turned over to the New York State Police.

Maybe one of these days, criminals will find a way to avoid the peace bridge.
