
Increased Police Patrol In New York State
If you are going to be celebrating New Year's Eve, you'll want to be very careful. Governor Kathy Hochul reminded New Yorkers that State Police and local law enforcement will be cracking down on drunk drivers this holiday season. There is an ongoing nationwide enforcement effort to keep our roads safe this holiday season.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, runs through New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1, 2026. Temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects are suspended tomorrow, Wednesday, December 31, through 6 am, Monday, January 5, 2026. Governor Hochul said,
"Anyone making the decision to place themselves or other drivers in danger this holiday season will be ticketed or face criminal charges. Our state has zero tolerance for impaired and reckless driving because the safety of New Yorkers is always my top priority.”
Troopers and other law enforcement officers will be conducting checkpoints and patrols. They will also be looking out for speeding drivers, distracted drivers, and drivers who violate New York's “Move Over Law.”
