New York Ice Agents Have New Daily Quotas
Immigration officers in New York have new arrest quotas. Trump has kept one of the promises he made on the campaign trail - to target undocumented immigrants living in the United States. I've seen some videos on social media and of course, the news media are reporting about raids around the country.

Ice Agents Have New Quotas In New York
Now that Trump has ramped up deportation efforts, reports say that Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been given quotas. The new quotas will increase arrests in the New York City area. There are 25 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field offices around America, including New York City. The White House request requires ICE agents in each office to make 75 daily enforcement arrests.
The Gothamist, says that according to four sources, it was handed down on Saturday, January 25, 2025. At a rate of 75 arrests per day, there would be over 1,800 ICE arrests per day. For comparison, in September 2024, ICE agents arrested about 282 undocumented immigrants per day - five per day in the New York City area.

The Trump administration boasts that it made 2,681 arrests within the first week of his new term. Trump is also fighting against the U.S. Constitution, seeking to end birthright citizenship, which is protected by the 14th Amendment. Trump's challenge of a ratified amendment could put citizenship for not just millions of people who are immigrants and those born to immigrant parents in jeopardy, but potentially even the citizenship of African Americans,
'Significantly, the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment overrode the Dred Scott v. Sandford decision of 1857, which held that African Americans could not be American citizens, whether enslaved or free. Under the new amendment, citizenship was granted to all persons born or naturalized in the United States.' direct response to former slaves' uncertain status.

Any challenge to the 14th Amendment could have dire consequences for millions of Americans. The 14th Amendment was passed by the Senate on June 8, 1866, and ratified two years later, on July 9, 1868. The right-wing Project 2025 group is pushing for an end to the 14th Amendment. While Trump says that he is only interested in ending it for undocumented citizens, once the protection is gone, it is gone. In 2006 Project 2025 wrote,
“It is today routinely believed that under the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, mere birth on U.S. soil is sufficient to obtain U.S. citizenship. However strong this commonly believed interpretation might appear, it is incompatible not only with the text of the Citizenship Clause (particularly as informed by the debate surrounding its adoption), but also with the political theory of the American Founding.”
