The last 9 months have been a rollercoaster ride for people all over the United States. From government lockdowns, sky-high inflation, and tariffs being applied by the government on multiple imported products. Because of this and other things, the average American has been having a real hard time keeping up with everyday expenses.

To help make things easier for people all over the Empire State, the state government has decided to issue inflation and tariff-related rebates to residents of New York.

Those checks, which have been a long time coming, are finally starting to come out and be sent to eligible individuals and families. And, as you may know, anytime that you have a large amount of money being distributed by the government, scammers always find a way to try and get their hands on your hard-earned money.

The other day I received a text message about my pending inflation rebate that looked a little fishy.

The text, which comes says it's from the New York Department of Revenue via an international phone number, asks you to verify your information to have your funds sent to you via direct deposit.

Just so you know, there is no such department New York Department of Revenue, nor would they text you.

Checks from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance will start being issued last week and will be sent out over the next few weeks. The checks will be mailed to the address that was on your New York State income tax return.

Remember, scammers are going to scam, so make sure you take steps to protect yourself. If you think you are being scammed, the New York State Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission want to know about it.
