Noteworthy Prison Sentences In Erie County Last Month

The Erie County District Attorney's Office was busy in January. There were quite a few noteworthy cases involving the plea deals or sentencing of criminals in the Buffalo area.

Two Buffalo Teens Sentenced For Killing Toddler

Two male teenagers, who were 14-years-old and a 16-years-old at the time of the crime, were sentenced for killing a three-year-old boy. His sister was also injured in the deadly shooting. The incident happened on Friday, June 21, 2024, at approximately 9:30 pm. The shooting took place on Domedion Avenue near Genesee Street. The three-year-old boy, named Ramone “Red” Carter, was shot in the back. He was pronounced dead at ECMC. His 7-year-old sister was grazed by a bullet. The two males were shooting at another group of young males, not intending to hit the children.

- Jahaan Taylor, 16, was convicted of one count of Murder, one count of Attempted Murder, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and one count of Assault. He received an indeterminate sentence of 15 years to life in prison.

- Elijah Mumford, 17, of Buffalo, was found guilty of one count of Manslaughter and one count of Assault, which ended up being dismissed. He received a determinate sentence of 15 years in prison.

Buffalo Man Sentenced For Stabbing

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that a Buffalo man, Calvin W. Haskins, was sentenced for stabbing three employees of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center on Forest Avenue. The 36-year-old male intentionally harmed the workers at an outpatient housing unit for residents on April 3, 2024. Haskins has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, plus 5 years of post-release supervision.

Buffalo Man Pleads Guilty To Killing Coworker

The 27-year-old Buffalo man pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter. Abdula Hussein shot 62-year-old Tawfaik Alsheari on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 3:30 pm, inside a corner store located on Broadway near Sears Street. Hussein is facing up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Cheektowaga Father Sentenced For Killing Son

Jahmil A. Paisley was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 2 to 6 years for killing his son. On Friday, October 18, 2024, at approximately 3:24 pm, the 31-year-old male left his 21-month-old son, Logan Paisle,y in an unattended vehicle. The boy died from dehydration.
