Massive Recall Could Impact Easter Dinners In New York
A recall could affect New Yorkers' Easter dinners. Last year, it felt like there was a recall or two or three every day. It's pretty scary to know that there are so many failures in our food production systems. Food can turn deadly very quickly due to bacteria, foreign matter, or allergen contamination.
There is a massive butter recall that affects New York consumers as Easter is quickly approaching. The especially gross part about it is the reason the butter is being recalled. No one wants to find out there's a little extra flavor in their butter due to poop!

According to Science Direct,
"Some coliform bacteria are associated with the intestines (colon) of warm-blooded animals (called fecal coliforms), while others are related to plant material. Coliform bacteria are considered as indicator organisms because their presence in foods indicates that circumstances are suitable for the presence of enteric pathogens and may signify insufficient sanitary conditions."
Cabot Creamery is recalling 1,701 pounds of its salted butter due to possible coliform contamination. Coliform is a bacterium that is present in human and animal fecal matter. The company received at least two reports of elevated coliform bacteria in its Extra Creamy Premium Butter sticks. The butter at the center of the recall was manufactured at Agri-Mark, Inc. in Vermont. The butter was distributed in New York State, as well as Arkansas, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.
