Drivers on these roads who speed will get an automatic ticket between today and November 1, 2025. New York Vehicle & Traffic Law § 1180-E allows for automated speed monitoring in certain construction zones around the state. The program, which is a joint effort by the State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the Thruway Authority (NYSTA), will last for five years.

Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced that police around New York State will be cracking down on impaired driving. As Halloween quickly approaches, New York State Police will be targeting people driving under the influence. The crackdown on dangerous drivers runs today through Friday, October 31, 2025. During the Halloween crackdown in 2024, officers issued 46,212 citations, arrested 1,260 drivers for impaired driving, and ticketed 9,029 drivers for speeding. Gov. Hochul said,
“Halloween should be fun and safe for everyone, regardless of how you choose to celebrate. Unfortunately, poor choices behind the wheel can lead to deadly consequences. There is no excuse to drive impaired, drive distracted or speed. The New York State Police and our local law enforcement officers will be out and looking for anyone who makes the decision to jeopardize the safety of others this Halloween.”
