Building The Ultimate Western New York Picnic Basket

We only get a couple of months to make the best of summer. If you're going to go on a picnic, you might as well have the good stuff in your basket.

Do people even pack picnic baskets anymore?  Normally it's a cooler, right?

It's a perfect day for a picnic

For this, it's going to be a basket.  Imagine the weather forecast has 0% chance of rain.  The sky is blue and the temperatures are going to be between 75 and 80 degrees. You've got the day off and you want to be outside to enjoy it. Someone decides that it's a good day for a picnic and you have to pack the food.  What would you put in it?

Let's add one more degree of difficulty.  You can only pick foods that are from right here in Western New York.

What is going to go in your picnic basket?

What would you pack your basket with?  Is everything going to be cold? Will you need a grill for your food? How cold will the things that are in your picnic basket have to be? Nobody wants to get to a picnic on a warm day and find that the stuff they needed to keep cold got warm, and the stuff that needed to stay warm is cold.

You're going to need a main dish that's totally Buffalo, like subs or hot dogs, then a bunch of side dishes that you can snack on as you sit and enjoy the weather.  Don't forget drinks either, but those should be easy to find with all the local breweries and wineries.
