The winter of 2025 is here, and across New York State, thousands are getting ready to enjoy the snow and the outdoors!

Snowmobile owners in New York State have been patiently waiting for the deer season to end, and the snow to fall, so that the trails can open. The trails are NOT open until approved by the clubs that maintain them.
If you plan to ride your snowmobile in New York, you will need to register that sled. There is a big fee for those who register a sled. However, a discount is offered if you valid membership in a snowmobile club.
For those who are wondering. "how much is a snowmobile registration in New York State", get ready to pay $135 for one year of registration. IF you have a club membership, the fee is $65.
"Pursuant to updates within Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 2222, as well as Section 21.07 of the Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Law, $130.00 of the $135.00 registration cost, or $60.00 of the $65.00 registration cost for a member of a NYSSA-affiliated snowmobile club or TME, shall be a fee that is collected and deposited within the NYS Snowmobile Trail Development and Maintenance fund. The remaining $5 is deposited into the New York State General Fund".
There are some exemptions such as riding on your own property.
Join a club where you ride and pay attention to whether or not the trails are open and follow the trail and rules associated with them.
