As we get ready for October to start, there are portions of New York State that re gearing up for the next season of weather and storms.

The cooler air will be creeping in soon and when it gets cold enough, and the winds are right, the lake effect snow machines will fire up! How likely is it that we will see significant snow? The water temperatures in the Great Lakes along New York State are still pretty warm making for good conditions for storms to form.

Regardless of the water temps and the nice weather, those of us who live in and grew up in the snow belt areas know that a snow storm can pop up any time. In fact, one of the biggest "surprise" storms was on October 13th in the Buffalo area and it dropped heavy wet snow that caused power outages and snarled traffic for days for some areas. Fingers crossed, Old Man Winter will wait to show his face until it it actually winter in December. But, it is still a good idea to be prepared.
