Have you ever wondered how much people on TikTok actually make? If you found out, you might not ever want to go back to your day job.

Ask most kids in school what they'd really like to be when they grow up and you will probably hear a lot of them say that they want to be a star on YouTube. It's a pretty common answer these days. But how much can you really make?

A doctor claims she makes more as a content creator than as a doctor

A story just came out about a doctor from Rochester, NY who claims to make more as a TikTok influencer than she does as an OBGYN doctor, and her salary as a doctor is already over $300k!

How did she become an influencer on TikTok?

She says that she became an influencer in 2021 to combat misinformation about reproductive health. Her name is Dr. Fran Haydanek, and at first, she didn't make much money at all. Then, in 2023, she became a member of the TikTok Creator Fund and made "a little money." In 2024, she tripled what she made in 2023.

How do you become part of the TikTok Creator Fund?

Unfortunately, it's not easy to become part of the TikTok Creator Fund. There are a few steps that you have to complete first. Eligibility depends on you meeting certain criteria, like first being at least 18 years old, having at least 10,000 followers, and you must have at least 100,000 valid video views in the last 30 days, among others.

From the looks of things, it is profitable.  And it is possible. However, it's probably not probable. Doing the things mentioned above takes a lot of work and a little luck and sadly, it can go away as quickly as it's built.

She says that she's already made more than her salary this year and hopes to use the money to pay back her education loans.

Stay in school, kids

A lot of kids will read this and then look at their parents to say, "I told you so," but not so fast. As I mentioned above, this is a great story about someone who found a way to make extra money, and it turned out to be a lot of extra money. She already has another job. So if TikTok disappeared tomorrow (which it could) she would still have a way to make some money. Without the education she got in college, she wouldn't have the content she needs to be relevant on TikTok.

Thinking about being a rich content creator? Get a regular job first and go from there. I'm not saying it won't work out for you, but you'll always be better off if you have a regular job first.
