There's a reason Dyngus Day is very popular here in WNY.  We have a ton of people here that are of Polish Heritage and they're proud to show it.

Many of the families that celebrate Easter here in WNY are of Polish heritage, so often you'll see Polish traditions carried out in the meals that they serve.

While Polish Easter dinner is huge, in many homes, Polish Easter breakfast is just as big as dinner.  They will celebrate with all kinds of meats, eggs, and specially made cakes.

Of course, they also have to be sure to get their Easter Basket blessed every year too.  The basket contains a lot of the food that the family will eat at dinner and will be prepared on Saturday.  Then it's brought to church on Sunday to be blessed.

It doesn't stop with dinner.  The decorations have to be just right too.  You'll need to have pussy willows (and those will come in handy the next day on Dyngus Day).  Here in the United States many Christians will celebrate Palm Sunday with the waving of Palms to remember Christ coming to Jerusalem on a donkey, but those palm trees are rare in Poland.  So they often used pussy willows or 'palms' made of colorful woven dried branches in their place.

If you're hoping to have a Polish Easter Dinner, you can always add more to your spread, but you HAVE to be sure to at least include these seven things. Check them out and let us know what we missed!

I asked the question, "If you were going to have a Polish Easter dinner, what would HAVE to be on the table?" on Facebook, and this is what you came up with:
