Residents of Upstate New York are loving the videos and pictures that are going viral of world-famous talk show host Jimmy Fallon at a random college party in Albany, New York.

The 49-year-old host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live alum was spotted on a busy Albany street last Saturday afternoon in the midst of an early Saint Patrick’s Day event, surrounded by throngs of decked-out 20-somethings.

Fallon, who was in the area to do a surprise set later that night at comedian Nate Bargatze’s show at Albany’s MVP Arena, was seen making his way out of a random house and through crowds of excited college students.

As amazing as this story is, we still had so many questions. What was he doing there? Did he know someone? Why was he hanging out with a bunch of tipsy college kids?

Now, we finally have the answers we were looking for.

Surprising Reason Why Jimmy Fallon Was In Upstate New York

After performing another surprise set with Nate Bargatze in Syracuse the night before, Fallon hopped on Bargatze’s tour bus to ride with him to his next stop in (you guessed it) Albany. When he arrived, he decided to go on an impromptu visit to his old stomping grounds.

You may not know this, but Jimmy Fallon went to The College of Saint Rose in Albany. Even though he left a semester short of graduation to focus on comedy (and we're so glad he did), Saint Rose would go on to give him college credit for his TV experience, and he would later walk the stage to get his college degree in 2009 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (along with an honorary doctorate).

Sadly, The College at Saint Rose is closing at the end of this semester, so he paid a visit to his former campus, following it up with a quick stop to where he used to live while he attended classes there.

He told the story on Monday night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:

“I went to my old apartment, and rang the doorbell. These two kids came down, and I was like, ‘Hey - what’s up, man?’ And they’re like, ‘Can we help you?’”

He explained to them that he used to live there, and soon it finally clicked for the confused guys that answered the door that a massive celebrity was standing on their porch.

“They thought they were getting punked or something.”

Then, we learned why he was later seen all over social media surrounded by swarms of college kids on the streets of Albany.

Here’s How Jimmy Fallon Ended Up At A Random Party In Albany

After regaling his Tonight Show audience with the story of how he surprised the occupants of his old Albany home, he let out that afterwards, he “crashed a frat party.”

“I saw on Hudson (Ave) there were all of these kids standing outside…it was ‘eggs and kegs’? Is that a thing?I don’t know what that is.”

(It’s actually “Kegs & Eggs,”  an annual tradition in the area that admittingly doesn’t have the best history, but is clearly still celebrated in a much more tame way by Albany college students).

When the party-goers realized Jimmy Fallon was meandering around their neighborhood during the pre-St. Patrick’s Day festivities, they invited him inside to hang out (which anyone who is a super fan of Jimmy Fallon knows he’ll gladly accept).

“They were so nice. Very polite. Thank you, whatever frat that was. They were just fun, having a good time.”

(Based on the flag flying outside in a few videos online, we have a good guess that the frat is the Lambda Phi Epsilon fraternity at the University at Albany.)

Afterwards, Fallon let out that he went back to his Albany-area hotel to prepare for his stand up set at MVP Arena, and that he hopes to come back to the Capital Region.

“It was so fun, and I’m going to do it again. I want to go back.”

Come back anytime, Jimmy! Forget New York City - Upstate New York all day.
