I get it. Karaoke isn't for everyone. But if you've always wanted to try it, and you're holding back because you're afraid, there are some things that you can do to make sure you have a blast every time.

They say that one of the biggest phobias in life is the fear of public speaking. Now turn that public speaking into singing, and you've added a whole new level of horror. But it doesn't have to be that way. If you've always wanted to try singing karaoke, but just haven't done it because you're afraid, it's time to put that aside and start having some fun with it.

Over the last couple of weeks, I've been going to karaoke in Western New York, and I've come up with a list of things you can do to make it a little easier on yourself and have more fun!

1. Stop looking at it as a competition - I don't remember the last time I went to karaoke and found a talent scout sitting there with a contract in their hand, waiting to sign the next big star. That's not how it works. Sure, some people will be really good, and others will be...well...not as good, but it's all about having fun. If you go in with that attitude, it's a lot better for everyone.

2. Bring a group - There's no better way to find a hype squad, than to bring your own. Invite friends that like to have fun along with you and cheer each other on after you sing. And if you really need it, they can even come up to sing backup!

3. Buy some drinks - Karaoke is always more fun when you've got a little liquid lubrication in you. They don't necessarily even have to be alcoholic beverages. Not only does it help to ease the nerves, but it also supports the bar or restaurant where they're hosting karaoke. If you aren't supporting them, you're just taking up tables.

4. Get there early - Stop in and have some dinner early, then stick around for the singing. Not only can you scope out your seat or table, but it's always more fun when you can get your name in early and don't have to wait forever for your name to be called.

5. Don't sing - You read that right. So many people think that to have fun at karaoke, you have to go through the pressure of singing in front of everyone. You don't have to do that at all. Just come out and enjoy everyone else singing. It's live entertainment! You can sing along from your seat if you want.

Bonus Tip: Save some money when you go!

One of our favorite places to sing karaoke is Hat Trix Bar & Grill on Camp Road in Hamburg. They have karaoke every Friday night, and it's a ton of fun. They've got delicious food and ice-cold drinks. And right now, there's a special deal going on where you can save half off when you go there. It's a $50 certificate for just $25 and you can use it right away. Get your half off Hat Trix deal here!
