Free Toboggans Available At Chestnut Ridge Park
There's a good chance that if you've lived in Western New York for any period of time, you've heard of the toboggan chutes at Chestnut Ridge State Park. If you've never used them because you don't own a toboggan (not many people actually do) then this should be good news for you.
What even is a toboggan?
A toboggan is like a sled that was originally meant to drag supplies through snow. It's a flat, long sled with a curled-up front that can be used by multiple people seated in a line. The person in the front sits with their legs cris crossed, and then everyone behind them sits with their legs straddling the person in front of them.
Chestnut Ridge is now offering toboggan usage for free
For years, Chestnut Ridge park has had a toboggan chute that sits at the top of a hill by the casino for people to use. Back in the day, toboggans used to be a little more common, but as plasic sleds became cheaper and easier to carry back up a hill, you see fewer toboggans.
However, you're going to be able to see them at Chesnut Ridge park, and you're going to be able to try them out yourself. They've teamed up with Gear For Adventure in Hamburg to bring them to you.
They will only be available while the chutes are open. You can check their status by clicking here.
They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can use them, then they just ask that you return them when you're finished. Have fun, and be safe!
