There are some changes being discussed in New York State that might help to improve hunting. As we start summer, deer hunters are anxious for the fall to arrive and the hunting seasons to start.

But before we get there, the next couple of months will be filled with scouting and dreaming about the trophy whitetail bucks that are going to walk by. As hunters prep their stands, state lawmakers are talking about changes.

According to reports, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is working behind the scenes to give hunters the best experiences possible.

According to a post on the New York State DEC website: "“DEC is proposing to update regulations to improve deer management and hunters’ experience by offering a streamlined digital option for tagging and reporting,” Director of DEC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife Jacqueline Lendrum said. “The proposals released today reflect public desires for hunting opportunity and improvements to deer management to benefit hunters, wildlife managers, and landowners.”

Within some of the discussions, New York State is considering removing certain limits on the use of tags. For example, a possible change would be "rescinding the limit on number of DMAP tags that may be used per hunter".

For those who are interested, and want to make a few suggestions, the DEC is giving you a chance to do that until mid August. Send thoughts to the DEC HERE

It won't be too long before the cooler air is back and the leaves start to change and we will be back in the woods ready to hunt! I love summer in New York State but it is nothing like our beautiful hunting seasons in the fall!
