This year, parents across New York State will get an extra bonus when they file their taxes. This year, parents will get some extra money back from the government when they go to file their taxes due ot the passing of the Big Beautiful Bill.

Child Tax Credit Increased For 2026

The child tax credit that parents can use when they file their taxes has been increased due to inflation for the 2025 tax year, which is filed in 2026. When you go to file your taxes, you will now be able to claim $2200 per child under the age of 17.

The credit was increased under President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill to help fight inflation.

You won't have to do anything to get the increased amount in your tax return. When you file, and if you are eglible to recvieve the Child Tax Credit, you will automatically get the increased amount added to your return.

This amount should help some parents get more money back in their refund. The child care credit is tied to income levels, so the more you make, the less you will get back in your refund.

Tax Filing Deadline Is April 15th.

If you haven't filed your taxes yet this year, you still have time to get everything squared away. You have until April 15th, 2026, to file your taxes. If you think you need more time, you can file for an extension with the IRS.

On average, the Federal income refund was around $2,476, which is up 14.2% from 2025.
