The Buffalo Sabres have announced that they will be wearing their iconic black and red uniforms again this year for 15 games.

When the Buffalo Sabres started in the 70's, they had a classic blue and gold uniform with the crossed sabres on the front.  Then in 1996, the Sabres brought in a brand new look.  They began wearing a black and red uniform that had what is affectionately known in Buffalo as the goathead design on the front.

These are the jerseys that the Sabres wore during their deep push into the playoffs with those late 90s teams.  It was Hasek, Drury, Briere, Pominville, and STuuuuuu Barnes.  It was an iconic time for the Sabres.  But fans were excited to go back to the blue and gold.  It felt like a return to our roots in a way.

Last year, the Sabres once again brought back the black and red uniforms for 15 games. and had some major success in doing so.  When they wore the black and red jerseys at home they had their best success.  Some of the players were even saying that they should switch back to the black and red permanently.

They're doing it again.  The Sabres have announced that fans can get excited for the black and red goathead jerseys to come back this year.

Not only will they be back in black and red, but they'll be doing it again with Lindy Ruff as the head coach.  The energy in that arena should be crazy as fans get a view of him on that new video board behind that bench with the team wearing the jersey that he had the most success with as a coach of the Sabres.
