It's the news that every Bills fan has been waiting to hear since August.

The Buffalo Bills gave Bills fans exactly what they wanted for Christmas about 5 weeks earlier than they expected to get it.  They are opening the practice window for linebacker Matt Milano this week.

What is a practice window?

In the NFL, when a player is listed on Injured Reserve (IR) they are out for at least 4 weeks.  It could be longer.  However, when the team wants for that player to return, they designate that they intend for them to return.  While they are on IR, they are not allowed to practice with the team.  However, if a team thinks the player is ready to return they open up a 21 day "practice window" period that will allow the player to come back to practice while the team evaluates whether they want to activate them back up to the 53 man roster.

Milano's loss was devastating

The Bills have been without their star linebacker since training camp when it was announced that he had torn his bicep.  It was a devastating blow to the Bills and their fans.  He was just returning for the first time from a broken leg that he suffered part of the way through the 2023 season.

Milano is coming back, but it won't be this week

The Bills made the announcement today that they will be opening his practice window this week.  He will not play against the Chiefs.  However, they do not need to wait the full 21 days.  They have up until 21 days to activate him to the 53 man roster.  If he is not activated before then, he will be out for the rest of the season.
