Heatwave Across New York State

Sunday was the start of some VERY hot weather across New York State, with much of the state under a heat advisory over the next couple of days.

What Is A Heatwave?

A heatwave is defined by the National Weather Service as a prolonged timeframe of warm weather that is above the historical average temperature for that time of year.

A heat wave is a period of unusually hot weather that typically lasts two or more days. To be considered a heat wave, the temperatures have to be outside the historical averages for a given area

Ways To Stay Cool During A Heatwave

There are several things you can do to stay cool when temperatures get this warm.

1 - Find Shade or Air Conditioning. If you have to be outside, make sure you take breaks and find shade or head inside for air conditioning.

2 - Wear lightweight, light colored clothing. These lighter colors will help reflect the sun's rays, and lightweight clothing will keep you more comfortable.

3 - Avoid eating meat or high-protein foods as they increase your body's heat when the body goes to break down the food.
