If you are doing any traveling this weekend this is some good news.

The price of gas continues to remain flat and is down from a month ago.

According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of unleaded gas in Western New York is around $3.56 per gallon which is down about 5 cents from last week and 13 cents from last month.

The cheapest gas in Western New York can be found in  Niagara County where the average price is around $3.50 per gallon.

Erie County has the most expensive average price at $3.61 per gallon.

Overall the price of gas in New York state has dropped since last year. Statewide the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $3.59 which is down two cents from last week and down 10 cents from last month.

Nationwide the average price of regular unleaded gas is $3.45 which is down a penny from last week and 14 cents from last month.

Most experts predicted that the price of gas would increase since as of June 1st all stations had to be switched over the the "Summer Blend" of gas.

The "Summer Blend" of gas is a special mix that has lower volatility, making it less likely to evaporate while sitting in your car’s gas tank in the heat. It is also less likely to emit harmful fumes into the atmosphere.

On average it is 15 cents more expensive per gallon to produce so usually the price of gas increases in the summer since producers push that price increase to the consumer.

Let's hope the downward trend continues through the rest of Summer.
