Get ready for things to get a little bumpy this afternoon across Western New York. After two full days of summer-like weather across the 716, things are set to change later this afternoon, and you will want to be weather aware.
Thunderstorms And Tornado Possible Today In Western New York
Things will start to get a bit dicey when it comes to the weather this afternoon in Western New York. A massive cold front is set to move in later today, and along with a drop in our temperatures, we are looking at possible severe weather as well.

Confirmed Tornadoes In Western New York 2026
So far this year, we have already seen three confirmed tornadoes in Western New York. The good news is that each one of those tornadoes was EF-1 or less, and no major damage was caused by those tornadoes.
The first tornado of the year was confirmed on March 31st. The tornado touched down in Machias and was on the ground for 3 minutes, reaching wind speeds of 107 miles per hour, making it an EF-1 tornado.
The second tornado of the year was also in Machias, this time on April 15th. That tornado was only on the ground for a minute with wind speeds around 75 miles per hour. It was classified as an EF-0 tornado.
The third tornado of the year touched down in Framersville on April 15th and was on the ground for around two minutes. Wind speeds reached 80 miles per hour, and the tornado covered about a 1/4 of a mile
On average, we see between 8 and 10 tornadoes per year across New York State.
