When tablets were introduced, they were presented as something to compliment the laptop and smartphone.

The question in my mind is, do tablets do anything you can't do if you already have a laptop or a smartphone?

We know that they are plenty of things laptops can do that smartphones can't, word processing, multi-tasking. Experts say that there are not many things that a tablet can do, that you can't do with your laptop and smartphone, but can the tablet do it easier? Movies, games, and productivity apps run better on a tablet. Do you need to spend $500 to $1000 on a tablet?

Sammuel Axon from Yahoo's Today In Tech says...

Tablets won't add anything new to your life that you don't already get with your smartphone and laptop. If you can afford one, though, it will make your life a little more pleasant.

The experts go on to say do not buy a tablet to replace either your smartphone or laptop; it only adds something as a third device. If you already own the other two types of gadgets, a tablet is a luxury, not a necessity.
