If you filled up your vehicle over the past couple of days, you have noticed that it costs a lot more to fill your tank than it did at the beginning of the month. So, if the way things are going, could we soon see gas at or over $4 per gallon?

Gas Prices Increasing In Western New York

Over the past several weeks, since the war in Iran started, we have seen the price of a gallon of gas rise. According to AAA, the current average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $3.767 per gallon in Western New York.

That is up 20 cents from last week and 69 cents from one month ago.

Could We See Gas Prices Hit $4 Per Gallon In Western New York?

If things continue the way they are, we could hit the $4 mark for a gallon of gas by this weekend. With the gas prices jumping nearly 20 cents a week, we would be right near the $4 per gallon mark by this weekend and could be above it by next week.

If the war in Iran continues and shipping is limited in the Strait of Hormuz, where nearly 20% of the World's oil goes through, prices will continue to increase.

Highest Gas Prices Ever Recorded In The United States

Even if we hit the $4 per gallon mark this week, we are still way off the record for the highest price for gas in US history. The current record peak is $5.00  per gallon, which happened back in June of 2022, when the Russian-Ukrainian war started.

Before that record, the highest average price was $4.11 per gallon, which was reported back in 2008.
