Cell Phones Banned At Schools In New York State

Starting this Fall, students in public schools across New York State will not be allowed to have access to their cell phones between the first and last bell of the school day.

The cell phone ban was part of the New York State budget proposed by New York Governor Kathy Hochul earlier this year and approved by lawmakers across the state.

Schools had to have a plan in place for the cellphone ban by August 1st.

You can hear what the Governor had to say about the ban below:

Many schools will have student lock their cellphones away for the day when they enter the school and only be able to retrieve them when they leave.

If a student needs to contact thier parents or someone else, they will not need to contact the main office of the school and use the school's phones.

Not Everyone Is Happy With The Cell Phone Ban

Many parents are concerned that they won't be able to contact their children in case of an emergency. Other parents believe the ban oversteps the personal freedoms that kids should have at school.
