The Buffalo Sabres front office was busy ahead of the start of NHL free agency.

Buffalo Sabres Make Qualifying Offers To Six Players

The Sabres were working on keeping their young players in the Blue and Gold. The team offered six players qualifying offers.

This means the Sabres now have the right to match any offer that these players might receive from other teams when NHL free agency starts.

The Sabres made qualifying offers to Tyson Kozak, Ryan McLeod, Bowen Byram, Ryan Johnson, Conor Timmins, and goaltender Devon Levi.

NHL Free Agency Starts At Noon On July 1st

The Buffalo Sabres could be very active during free agency. According to the website puckpedia.com, the Buffalo Sabres have around $21 million dollars in cap space for the upcoming season.

That means the Sabres could try and go after a high-profile player. One of the players the Sabres were linked to was Mitch Marner.

He had 102 points last season for the Maple Leafs, and he would bring a goalscorer's edge to the team. He scored 27 goals and had 75 assists in 81 games.

But the Leafs have traded him to Las Vegas, and it looks like he has signed a new 8 year deal.

The team could also make a move for a defenseman that they can pair with Owen Powers or Rasmus Dahlin. Both of them are left-handed shots, so a right-handed shooting defenseman would be ideal.

The team could sign Brett Burns. He is 40 years old, but he has won a Stanley Cup and would bring a wealth of knowledge into the locker room.
