The Buffalo Sabres didn't have the best season this past season as they missed the NHL playoffs for the 14th straight year, BUT they didn't have the worst season in the NHL.

That honor went to the San Jose Sharks, who finished the season with only 52 points. They have the inside track in the NHL draft lottery to claim the #1 overall pick, but since the Sabres didn't make the playoffs, they also have a chance to score the #1 pick.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS THE BUFFALO SABRES GET THE #1 PICK IN NHL DRAFT

The Buffalo Sabres finished with a 36-39-7 record for a total of 72 points. While it was good enough for the Sabres not to finish last, it was bad enough to get them in the running for the #1 overall pick.

According to NHL.com, the odds of the Sabres scoring the #1 overpick in the NHL draft lottery are 6.5%. That means there is a slim chance the Sabres can get the top pick. San Jose has the best odds at 25.5%. Chicago has the 2nd-best odds at 13.5%, and Nashville has the 3rd-best odds at 11.5%.
