The town is set to hire a private contractor to make the switch.

The switch is meant to help control costs by using more energy-efficient LED lights compared to traditional street lights.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING LED STREETLIGHTS?

LEDs lights use less energy because they require less power to emit the same amount of light as their conventional equivalents. Incandescent bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat and fluorescent lights release about 80% of their energy as heat. LED lights are 40 to 60% more energy efficient than traditional lighting.

ARE LED LIGHTS BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

According to the World Bank, Using LED lights instead of traditional lighting can reduce carbon emissions by the equivalent of taking 8.5 million cars off the road for a year.

HOW LONG DO THE LED LIGHTS LAST?

LED lights last longer than traditional lights. On average, LED bulbs will last up to 5 times longer than fluorescent lights and up to 30 times longer than incandescent ones.

ARE LED LIGHTS BETTER FOR DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS?

The simple answer is yes. LED lights are more in line with natural lighting and help drivers and pedestrians identify objects better and quicker leading to better traffic safety.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE THE SWITCH?
