As we battle a very cold and snowy start to 2025 here in Western New York, a look back at 2024 shows that it was the warmest year in Buffalo's history.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo released weather data from 2024 and it showed that average temperature in Buffalo was 53 degrees.

That set a new record by almost 1 degree. The old record was set back in 2012 when the average temperature for that year was 52.1 degees.

Buffalo set 9 new daily record highs and had no record lows in 2024.

2024 is now also first when it comes to days below freezing. In 2024, there were 92 days that the temperature fell below 32 degrees. That beat the old record of 102 days which was set in 2006.



Rochester's average temperarure in 2024 was 52.6 degrees which set a new record and Watertown's average temperature for 2024 was 49.2 degrees which tied their record for warmest year on record.

We won't be setting any warm records this week in Buffalo as a cold front is bring some very cold temperatures and snow to the area. We are still under a Lake Effect Snow Warning until Sunday evening.
