100 mph Wind Gust Confirmed In New York State

The official start for summertime happens this upcoming Tuesday, but for many of us, summer has basically already begun.

This time of year means that we get hot and humid weather, with the chance for thunderstorms and those that may be severe in nature.

On Thursday, much of New York State saw heavy thunderstorms roll through, especially during the afternoon. For those in the Finger Lakes and Upstate region, the weather got very dicey late afternoon and into the evening.

There was even a Tornado Watch until 11 pm last night in much of New York State.

While here in Western New York we didn't see much storm damage or much in the way of severe weather, those in Livingston County did.

Livingston County is located next to Allegany and Wyoming counties and saw severe weather roll through last night.

According to the National Weather Service, the thunderstorm wind damage was estimated to be 100 mph, which was determined to be from a straight line downburst.

The weather looks mostly good for the weekend, albeit cooler for Saturday and Sunday.

Be mindful of thunderstorms, especially since they can appear without warning and always have alerts on during the threat for severe weather.
