After a sunny but bitter cold Saturday, the warm-up in Western New York will start today.

A massive warm front is moving in from the West and it will bring potentially record-breaking high temperatures this week to Western New York.

Today we will see the high temperature in the 40s which is slightly above normal. On average the high temperature in Western New York in late February is around 38 degrees. It is on Tuesday and Wednesday when the records could fall.


The National Weather Service in Buffalo is calling for highs in the mid-60s for Tuesday and Wednesday which will be very close to the current record highs.

The current record high temperature for February 27th in Buffalo, New York is 64 which was set 24 years ago in 2000.

The current record high temperature for February 28th in Buffalo, New York is 64 which was set way back in 1954.

All that warmth comes to a sudden end when a cold front comes in on Thursday and drops the high temperature to below 30 on Leap Day before rebounding back into the 40s on Friday.

The long-range forecast is calling for a warmer than normal start to March as well, so it might be time to put those snow shovels away for good.
